Yamamoto Nori Store was founded by the founder, Tokujiro Yamamoto, in Muromachi, Nihonbashi, Edo, in 1849. During the time of the second generation, nori, which was then sold uniformly as Asakusa Nori, was strictly classified into eight types according to purpose, such as for home use, gift use, and sushi restaurant use, and sold accordingly.
In 1869, when they were asked to provide souvenirs for Emperor Meiji's visit to Kyoto, they painstakingly invented "flavored nori". This led them to market it to the general public, where it became a huge hit. This is why Yamamoto Noriten is known as the originator of flavored nori.
This spirit of strict quality control and innovative development continues to this day.
